Where these come from

Every figure on this shelf was picked up in person — at shops in Japan we can actually walk into, hold the box, and check with our own eyes. Nothing bought sight-unseen, nothing dropshipped.

Most of what we buy is secondhand: some pieces are still sealed and untouched, others clearly lived a little with a previous owner. We think that's part of the charm, not a flaw to hide. Check the photos closely — and if there's something you can't quite tell, just ask. We're happy to look again.

A quick note from the person doing the picking

I sell manga too — and manga has a wall a lot of fans eventually run into: you don't need Japanese to enjoy it, but there's a whole layer underneath — the wordplay, the cultural nuance — that only opens up once you do. Figures skip that wall completely. That's where this started.

I'm proud, as a Japanese person, to watch how much of the world has come to love manga and anime — and I have real respect for everyone who loves it back. On eBay and on Reddit, I kept hearing the same two worries from people like that: "Is this actually authentic?" and "I don't even know the total cost until I ask for a quote."

So that's what $50 FIGURE tries to fix. I'm not a lifelong figure expert — I'm someone who lives in Japan, learned what to check for, and only buys from shops I trust. One flat price, one person doing the finding — so what lands on your shelf isn't just a figure. It's a piece of Japan.
